Mortar is the most common method of fixing coping stones to brick and block walls. However over time the mortar can degrade and crack. Similarly imposed loads as well as wind uplift and vandalism can cause detachment. The resulting loose copings pose a significant health and safety hazard. Eurodec fixing dowels have been developed especially to combat this problem in accordance with BS 8298-2: 2010. The system works by firstly screwing the bracket to the wall positioned in the 10mm joint between the copings. The corresponding copings are measured, marked out and drilled, a dowel is then inserted as per the photo. Lastly the joints are pointed with mortar. For gable copings it is advisable to resin bond the dowels. The copings are now securely fixed to the wall removing the potential for future detachment problems from occurring.
